Multifaceted Emmet Cohen, called “a master-in-the-making” by the New York City Jazz Record, is one of his generation’s pivotal artistic figures. Downbeat praised the “nimble touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary” he employs to communicate with other musicians and audiences at what he terms “the deepest level of humanity and individuality.” He has appeared as a leader or sideman at the Monterey, Newport, North Sea, Bern, and Edinburgh jazz festivals, among others, and is currently a Hammond B-3 organist-in-residence at Smoke on Wednesday nights at 11:30PM. Cohen has performed, recorded or collaborated with Christian McBride, Herlin Riley Kurt Elling, Billy Hart, Jimmy Heath, Brian Lynch, Ali Jackson, Lea DeLaria, and many others. His latest project is called Masters Legacy Series, Vol. 1 which features living legend Jimmy Cobb. This project simultaneously features and honors master musicians, and celebrates them for their current humanity and spirit, while emphasizing the inter-generational transference of information.
