Winner of the American Jazz Pianist Competition and finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, Emmet Cohen is quickly forging a name for himself as a leader and composer. For Cohen, jazz is “about communicating the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it’s essentially about connections.” Whether he’s playing standards or new work, his sparkling technique and quicksilver ideas have a contemporary energy, but are deeply rooted in his respect for the jazz tradition. One of his current recording projects is the Masters Legacy Series; the first two volumes, featuring drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassist Ron Carter, have set a high bar with critics and listeners.
