DACAMERA presents Pianist Aaron Diehl

TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 2021

7:00 pm CST - Virtual Event, then on-demand

Dick Hyman Etudes for Jazz Piano (In the Styles of the Great Jazz Pianists)
Aaron Copland Piano Blues No. 4
Mary Lou Williams Zodiac Suite

Pianist Aaron Diehl in a recital of concert works composed in jazz style, featuring Zodiac Suite, a major solo work by American pianist, arranger and composer Mary Lou Williams. Zodiac Suite consists of portraits of musical friends from each sign of the zodiac. (“Aries” is for Ben Webster and Billie Holiday; “Taurus” is for Duke Ellington, etc.)

A virtuoso who moves easily between musical worlds, pianist Aaron Diehl is sure to delight listeners who reject conventional notions of genre. Known to DACAMERA’s audience as the pianist with jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, Aaron Diehl has been an acclaimed soloist with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic. Diehl’s most recent recording is 2020’s The Vagabond.

“it’s hard to imagine that Gershwin would not have been impressed. The audience was: It gave Mr. Diehl an enthusiastic ovation. He must be invited back.” — The New York Times

“Diehl gracefully melds two worlds, merging the improvisational spirit of jazz with the compositional intricacies of Western classical music.” — DownBeat
