JAZZ ARTIST SERIES–EMMET COHEN WITH THE UINDY JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Wednesday, March 3, 7:30 P.M.
Ruth Lilly Performance Hall, Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center

Emmet Cohen with the UIndy Jazz Ensemble

Winner of the 2019 American Pianists Awards and recipient of the Cole Porter Fellowship in Jazz, Emmet Cohen returns as artist-in-residence at the University of Indianapolis for an evening of solo performances and big band collaborations with the UIndy Jazz Ensemble. Downbeat observed that his “nimble touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary indicate he’s above any convoluted technical showmanship.” Cohen notes that performing jazz is “about communicating the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it’s essentially about connections,” both among musicians and with audiences. Cohen has appeared in the Monterey, Newport, North Sea, and Edinburgh jazz festivals among others, and at many famous music venues, including Rose Hall and the Kennedy Center. He has also played in legendary international jazz venues such as Birdland, the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Jazzhaus Montmartre, and Ronnie Scott’s.

No in-person audience for this event, due to COVID restrictions.

This concert will be streamed live at https://www.twitch.tv/uofindianapolismusic. Streams will be viewable for a limited time following the event, with highlights appearing on our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/uindymusic.
