Peter Bernstein Quartet (USA)
JAZZ ON5
Tuesday 09/11/2021 from 21:00

Top American guitarist Peter Bernstein has been a part of the New York jazz scene since 1989. During this time he participated in a number of studio recordings and concerts with musicians of all generations and as a leader he released 12 of his own albums and one DVD. As a sideman, Peter Bernstein appeared in groups led by Sonny Rollins, Bobby Hutcherson, George Coleman, Lou Donaldson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Diana Krall, Lee Konitz, Jimmy Cobb and many more. His latest work is the solo recording Solo Guitar - Live at Smalls from 2013, or the album Let loose with Gerald Clayton, Doug Weiss and Bill Stewart (2016) and Signs LIVE!with pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Christian McBrid and drummer Gregory Hutchinson (2017), both released by Smoke Session Records. This was followed by the Toy Tunes album (2018) released by Pirouet records and now the fresh album What Comes Next , which will be presented in the Jazz Dock. He is probably best known to the jazz public from the highly acclaimed organ trio Larry Goldings, where he worked with drummer Bill Stewart for thirty years and with whom he also performed several times in Prague.

Peter Bernstein's music does not cross the boundaries of jazz, it is not innovative or extravagant, but it eclectically incorporates the development of modern jazz of the 20th century and is played at the highest conceivable level. Peter Bernstein's honest musical craft is based mainly on uncompromisingly swinging rhythm, melodic and harmonic ingenuity and virtuoso recitation of original compositions and jazz standards. Legendary guitarist Jim Hall said of him: “Peter pays attention to the past and the future. He's the most impressive guitarist I've ever heard… ”
