The American Pianists Awards are held every four years to discover the best aspiring young American classical pianists. Winners receive cash and two years of career advancement and support valued at over $100,000, making this one of the most coveted prizes in the music world.

The Premiere Series provides the first live juried performances of the five American Pianists Awards finalists. Over the course of five months, each finalist makes an initial appearance on stage in Indianapolis.

2017 American Pianists Awards finalist Alex Beyer, 22, will perform a solo program as well as Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 19 with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra.

Alex recently won Third Prize in the 2016 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium. He was the recipient of Third Prize, as well as the Beethoven and Irish NSO special awards at the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition. He was a finalist in the 2012 Gina Bachauer International Competition, a 2011 MTNA national finalist and a prizewinner in the 2010 PianoArts Competition. In 2012, Alex received the Jeniam Foundation Scholarship from the Stamford Symphony and was a US Presidential Scholar in the Arts. He has studied with Yoshie Akimoto, Dr. Matti Raekallio, and Melvin Chen. He is currently studying with Russell Sherman and Wha Kyung Byun at the New England Conservatory, and studying math and statistics at Harvard.
