2017 American Pianists Awards winner Drew Petersen makes his debut as artist-in-residence at University of Indianapolis. This concert will also be aired on Facebook Live!

Petersen’s recital program predominantly celebrates American music of the 20th century, including piano sonatas of Samuel Barber, Elliott Carter, and Charles Ives; and a set of rarely-heard Fantasy Pieces by Charles Tomlinson Griffes. The program opens with Judith Zaimont’s Attars, commissioned by American Pianists Association for the five finalists to perform in the New Music Recital of the 2017 American Pianists Awards. Later this year, Petersen will record this complete program for his debut solo album on the Steinway & Sons label.

Program

“The Alcotts” from Piano Sonata No. 2, Concord, Mass., 1840-60 by Charles Ives (1874 – 1954)

Piano Sonata in E-flat Minor, op. 26 by Samuel Barber (1910 – 1981)
