As the fifth of five finalists for the 2017 American Pianists Awards prepares for his Premiere Series concert, we check in with Alex Beyer.

In our first feature on Alex, we learned about his early years in piano, some of his artistic inspirations and his competitive spirit. Since that conversation last Spring, Alex finished third in the Queen Elisabeth Competition, has performed a series of benefit concerts for the Pequot Library in Connecticut, and met his fellow Awards finalists at events in Indianapolis and New York—all while managing his studies at both Harvard and the New England Conservatory of Music!

A few weeks ago Alex shot some videos which allow us further insight into the unique life of a creative young pianist. Enjoy!

Finally, even with the demands of his studies, practice and performance calendar, Alex manages to make time for nature walks, running and working out. Sometimes those pursuits are the beneficiaries of his performance schedule; in this clip he checks in while on a run in Holland, in-between recitals in Texel and at the famed Concertgebouw in Amsterdam:

Alex Beyer's Premiere Series concert is Sunday, February 26 at the Indiana History Center.
