Joel Harrison

As a member of the APA team now for over 17 years, I can tell you my life has been transformed for the better on every level. I loved my former life as a university professor and performing pianist, but in my life as Artistic Director/CEO/President of APA, I have gained a new appreciation for music and the arts in general, jazz and classical piano in particular, and grown enormously artistically through simply being around some of the most gifted pianists in the country. Really, for me, it has been like yet another graduate degree in music! Hearing as many pianists as I do, and at such a high level, is a privilege and an inspiration. I have the best job in the whole world- or at least, a job that suits me and encourages me to come forth with the best I have to offer. To say I love it is an understatement, and it is just that kind of passion that keeps me going, leading this remarkable organization to ever greater success!
