“Lots of young pianists have chops and energy, but Cohen also has an instinct for meaningful aesthetic form. His spilling runs and chiming resolutions are necessary to an overall design.”
Emmet Cohen Trio Plays the Great American Song Book!
Harlem based piano phenom, Emmet Cohen, swings through town with his all-star trio. It features Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s bassist, Russell Hall, and drummer Kyle Poole recently on tour with Wynton Marsalis. The trio is known for its range and uplifting dynamism. They also represent Cohen’s “kaleidoscopic sense of musical narrative,” as noted in Downbeat Magazine’s current edition. Audience members can expect to be treated to a master class in stylistic juxtapositions. This includes the melding of stride, blues, church, swing, bebop, free, as well as contemporary styles, resulting in the innovative sound of Jazz’s future.
Emmet Cohen is an extremely talented and rising pianist in the international jazz scene. Based in NYC – Emmet is well respected as a leader, as well as being a sideman for many top jazz artists. He has also garnered a South Florida following. He is touring with his own trio, as part Christian Mcbride’s trio, and with jazz icon Wynton Marsalis, and has just completed recording a CD with Legendary bassist Ron Carter.
The Trio will also feature selections from Cohen’s latest album releases, “Masters Legacy Series Vol. 1,” which features famed Miles Davis drummer Jimmy Cobb, and “Vol. 2”, showcasing revered acoustic bass pioneer, Ron Carter.
