American Pianists Association announces the return of its educational outreach program, Concerto Curriculum, featuring residencies at five area high schools.
“I’m very excited that we’ve been able to re-create our Concerto Curriculum program this season,” states CEO Peter Mraz, referring to the American Pianists Association’s school outreach program. Concerto Curriculum brings the beauty of piano music to underserved neighborhoods, it provides professional development and pedagogical opportunities for APA pianists, and it inspires new generations of young musicians.
As part of each competition cycle, every finalist completes a residency with an Indianapolis-area high school orchestra or jazz band. Residencies typically span the course of three days, and they include masterclasses, workshops, discussions, and rehearsals, culminating in a joint public performance with school musicians.
Peter continues, “We had to cancel our Concerto Curriculum program last year because of COVID. It’s very exciting for us to welcome our 2021 finalists back to Indianapolis, and to have the opportunity to re-create these unique experiences for local high school students when they work with and are mentored by world-class pianists close to their own age. This type of engagement has a deep and meaningful impact on our community and we very much hope to be able to expand the program in the future!”
This season’s Concerto Curriculum program is supported by the Indy Arts and Culture Restart & Resilience Fund: An Arts Council of Indianapolis program made possible by Lilly Endowment Inc.
